Hangöver formed in Poland around 1997. They have released a demo (Terrorbeer), a split with Sweden’s GMC and a track for the first “Thrash Metal Blitzkrieg” EP. April 22 2006 marks the latest release, “Under the Shitfluence” - a covers tribute to Jesus Christ, G.G. Allin.

A short MCD made up of six tracks, total running time just over 12 minutes.
The track selection is a little disappointing. Made up largely from late-eighties/early nineties recordings. With the exception of frequent gig-opener “Bite it you scum” (1985). One surprising selection is “Son of Evil” from the excellent country tribute album “Carnival of Excess” recorded by G.G. with the Criminal Quartet. This acoustic cover track however highlights the weakest aspect of “Under the Shitfluence”. Vocals - G.G.’s angry lyrics do not sound right sung with an eastern European accent.

The press release for this record clearly states that since G.G.’s death “nobody has even come close.” Exactly! So a covers/tribute release should at least try to out-scum the originals. These come out sounding bland and routine. Partially down to the track selection but still the guitars sound lazy, drum machine very weak and the thrash-vocals lack any genuine spite that physically spew from the originals.

Paying tribute to the King of Underground Rock’n’Roll is an understandable desire. But sometimes it’s better to just wear a logo shirt in a photo shoot and leave the covers.

Hangöver’s original material however (with a little more Motorhead influence) comes into its own, so don’t dismiss the band before checking their demos or their thrash material on Thrash Metal Blitzkrieg EP #1.
